COMPANY PROFILE
Brief History
Beginning of Furniture in Subcontinent:
The mughals brought the era of architecture, design, craft and culture in the subcontinent. It was about 150 years ago that the subcontinent planted first sheesham tree (Dilberggio Sisso) this tree took about 70 years to attain maturity before it could be used for the crafts of furniture. After cutting the tree it remained open for about 6 months during which its bark was naturally removed and then only it was sent to saw-mill for sawing.
Until about 50 years ago, woodworking was more a craft than a scientifically established technology. Rising material and labor costs as well as new wood based materials, severe competition of other material, and new wood-machining processes have led to many strategies of wood-machining. Many goals have been sought, higher machining accuracy, kerfs loss reduction, increased safety, noise reduction and longer blade life.
Nevertheless wood machining and especially wood-sawing is still and will remain a rather conservative technique. Sawing is the most important and most frequent process in wood-working and only a skilled man can direct how to convert the logs into planks. Proper technique will assist in attaining homogenous vertical and horizontal grains. After proper sawing for three years, planks are stacked in proper fashion to eliminate the sap. Once this exercise is achieved, then only cutting for furniture is introduced.
The furniture design is emphasized on comfort, beauty and durability. Once cabinet-making process is completed, then the finishing exercise can be achieved. Each and every corner is sanded and pores are filled and additional sanding is required to make it defect free smooth surface, which is later finished with Nitrocellulose.
The piece of art thus obtained by this effort has been used and would remain in use for 100 years in both private and public sector. This art has passed on from one generation to another and these craftsmen have given dimensions to comfortable living in our society.
These skilled craftsmen are scattered all around but nowhere this is more than in Gujrat. Old giants of woodcrafts like Hayat furniture, Chenab furniture, Nazir Furnishers and now Bashir Designs furniture has developed both traditional and modern furniture. These craftsmen have kept alive their forefathers tradition and hard work.
Mr. Haji Bashir Ahmad at Gujrat has established Bashir Design Furniture since 1950. The company exported its first order to Japan in 1970. Now the company has customers including but not limited to Middle East, European countries and of course in Pakistan.
Furniture produced by them is one of international standard and quality probably on most competitive prices. Whenever quality conscious customer (either in domestic or foreign market) is buying furniture, our names remains on top the list.
BASHIR DESIGN FURNITURE has also honor and privilege of doing wood-work in Haram Sharif (the House of Allaha) at Makkah and God has been kind to bestow its blessing and versatility on them and the progress they are achieving is an example for coming generation.

Sheesham wood
Shisham is best known internationally as a premier timber species of the rosewood genus, but is also utilised as an important fuel wood and for shade and shelter. With its multiple products, tolerance of light frosts and long dry seasons, this species deserves greater consideration for tree farming, reforestation and agro forestry applications. After teak, it is the most important cultivated timber tree of the Bihar – which is the largest producer of shisham timber in India and Pakistan, although it is the provincial tree of the Pakistani Punjab. In Bihar, the tree is planted on roadsides, along canals and as a shade tree for tea plantations. It is also commonly planted in southern Indian cities like Bangalore as a street tree. Dalbergia sissoo is known to contain the neoflavonoid dalbergichromene in its stem-bark and heartwood.
Shisham is among the finest cabinet and veneer timbers. The heartwood is golden to dark brown, and sapwood white to pale brownish white. The heartwood is extremely durable (the specific gravity is 0.7 – 0.8) and is very resistant to dry-wood termites; but the sapwood is readily attacked by fungi and borers. It is used for plywood, agricultural and musical instruments, as well as skis, carvings, boats, floorings, etc.
